Juneteenth — observed June 19, marks the date wh

Juneteenth — observed June 19, marks the date when news of the emancipation proclamation reached enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, TX — is as much about pain and anger as it is reflection and celebration.

Black Americans have observed this day since its inception in 1865, but it wasn't until last year that it was recognized as a federal holiday.

We spoke with Black artists in North Texas about the notion of insensitivities around Juneteenth and the importance of incorporating their identity into music and art.

This past Wednesday, showgoers gathered at Double

This past Wednesday, showgoers gathered at Double Wide to celebrate the recovery of Jeff Saenz (@baby_snakes), who suffered a serious accident last year. The incident left him with third and fourth-degree burns, and ultimately ended in amputated sections of both his arms.

Attendees grinned from ear to ear as they watched Saenz lead The Texas Gentlemen on stage through a set of cover songs meant to reflect his feelings towards the support the North Texas music community has shown him.
