Monday through Saturday, 6 to 11 a.m.
Gini Mascorro is the morning host and music coordinator for KXT. Her earliest radio education consisted of George Gimarc’s The Rock & Roll Alternative and LaBella & Rody on KZEW (“The Zoo”), and reading Creem, Circus and Hit Parader at the grocery store magazine rack while waiting for her mother to finish shopping.
While studying Radio/TV/Film at the University of North Texas, she began her radio career in 1991 with KNTU 88.1, going on to host a late-night jazz show and working as promotions director. Following graduation, she took a six-month sabbatical in the UK, making various musical pilgrimages and working odd jobs in Oxford and Manchester, including pub DJ, receptionist and pet sitter. Upon her return to the states, she landed a job with Traffic Patrol Broadcasting, going on to report traffic for a number of Dallas/Fort Worth radio stations, including KTCK, “The Ticket.”
While on staff at KERA, she hosted All Things Considered on KERA-FM and produced the Evening Talk Show with Krys Boyd. In 2002, she slipped comfortably into the role of midday host/engineer and editor/producer of the daily Deep in the Arts segment, and editor of the online KERA arts calendar. She has also filled in for 90.1 at Night host Paul Slavens on numerous occasions.
Gini’s productions include a 2004 tribute to the legendary BBC Radio 1 presenter John Peel, a Beck retrospective, two shows celebrating cover versions, a Halloween show, and 2008’s fun-spirited Christmas Anthem, a two-hour mix of holiday tunes conveying the many moods of the season, co-produced with Joe Kozera.
Off the clock, Gini enjoys writing, travel, musicology, record shopping, rock ‘n’ roll documentaries and biographies, film history, and good food and wine.
Their first album in almost ten years doesn’t come out until May, but you can try it before you buy it at tonight’s free listening party and grab your copy of the first single here!
