Ten Hands

A veteran rock-funk act from Denton — featuring KXT’s own Paul Slavens on vocals and keys — Ten Hands is synonymous with a good time. A fixture in area venues, and renowned for its elastic, freewheeling and absurd sets, Ten Hands, which describes its sound as “a cross between the jazz-rock-art style of Frank Zappa and the psychedelic punk of the Meat Puppets,” is guaranteed to leave you with a big grin on your face.

In two short years, this funky, Oak Cliff-based quintet has brought a potent dose of ‘Nawlins energy to North Texas. You can find these ferociously talented musicians — led by musical director Kevin Butler — performing most weekends, drawing adoring crowds with a muscular, funky sound, and making it feel as though you’ve just stepped out onto Bourbon Street.
Kyoto Lo-Fi

Dallas quartet Kyoto Lo-Fi describes its sound as featuring “influences from New York’s 2000s indie rock scene along with a dash of psychedelic and pop,” which accurately captures the savvy, Spotify-in-a-blender style lead singer and songwriter Nico Caruso and his bandmates have honed over the last five years, including 2020’s EP It’s an OK Life.

Singer-songwriter La Bell first turned heads a year ago with “Floyd’s Song,” a shattering, socially conscious hip-hop track inspired by the traumatic racial unrest of the pandemic summer of 2020. She’s continued to command attention, thanks to smoldering R&B cuts like her recent single “Don’t Want to Give You Up.”

Summer Dean

This Fort Worth-based singer-songwriter has had a breakout 2021, thanks to her acclaimed (and pandemic-delayed) debut album, Bad Romantic. It’s an old-school country tour de force, cut with some ace session players in Fort Worth’s storied Niles City Sound studio, and featuring Dean’s arresting vocals wrapped around some songs tailor-made for getting tears in your beer.
