September Concerts In North Texas

This year, we’re welcoming autumn with open arms.

Like, “the size of Michael Phelps’ arm span” open arms. And that has little to do with pumpkin spice, and everything to do with concerts. Here’s a look at some of the fantastic live shows you don’t want to miss this month in North Texas:

KXT 91.7 Presents The Kills

Wed, Sept. 7
Granada Theater
Tickets available here.
Boy meets girl. Girl meets boy. Boy and girl…form a critically-acclaimed indie rock band and produce five albums. At least, that’s how it went down for Allison Mosshart and Jamie Hince of The Kills. Catch the star-crossed creatives at Granada early this month, on the heels of their latest release, Ash & Ice.

KXT 91.7 Presents Kraftwerk

Sat, Sept. 10
The Bomb Factory
Tickets available here.
Some argue Kraftwerk is the most influential band in pop history. Some say it should be “Beatles and Kraftwerk,” not “Beatles and the Stones.” Whatever you believe, you can see the revolutionary electro-band for yourself at The Bomb Factory this month. If you’re there, be sure to stop by the KXT table and say howdy! Yes, we have stickers.

Garbage

Sat, Sept. 10
South Side Ballroom
Tickets available here.
On the heels of her 50th birthday, rock goddess Shirley Manson and her crew are swinging through Dallas. The American-Scottish rockers recently released their sixth studio album, Strange Little Birds, and just last year wrapped up their 20 Years Queer tour, which marked 20 years since the band’s debut self-titled release.

Death Cab for Cutie

Wed, Sept. 14
The Bomb Factory
Tickets available here.
Er, speaking of bands formed in the nineties that we still love…Death Cab for Cutie is coming to The Bomb Factory. The indie pop stalwarts’ latest album, Kintsugi, was nominated for Best Rock Album at the Grammy’s this year — just further proof that 19 years and 8 albums later, there’s no stopping Ben Gibbard and Co.

Beats & Eats: Chef Graham Dodds, Charley Crockett

Thu, Sept. 15
Granada Theater
Tickets available here.
In the words of Virginia Wolfe, “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well.” Well. You’ll certainly think/love/sleep well on Thursday, September 15 if you head to Granada Theater for an exclusive 4-course meal from a local culinary sensation Chef Graham Dodds (Wayward Sons), followed by a post-dessert performance from a local bluesman Charley Crockett.

’til Midnight at the Nasher: Jack Kerowax, Pleasantville

Friday, September 16
The Nasher Sculpture Center
Free admission!
The 2016 season of ’til Midnight at the Nasher continues with a performance by Jack Kerowax and a screening of Pleasantville. Be sure to stop by the KXT table and say howdy to our wonderful Street Team! Did we mention we have stickers?

Ryan Bingham & Brian Fallon

Fri, Sept. 16
South Side Ballroom
Tickets available here.
We love a good double header in the fall, both in baseball and in music. Lucky for us, Ryan Bingham and Brian Fallon are touring together and making a Dallas stop. Both have recent album releases; Bingham with his 5th studio album, Fear and Saturday Night and Fallon with his debut solo album, Painkillers.

KXT 91.7 Presents Dinosaur Jr.

Sat, Sept. 17
Granada Theater
Tickets available here.
To the glee and delight of the entire alt-rock world, Dinosaur Jr. returned from a four-year hiatus this summer with their fresh and accessible 11th studio album, Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not. Don’t miss their stop in Lower Greenville by way of Granada Theater.

KXT 91.7 Presents Leon Bridges

Sun, Sept. 18
Music Hall at Fair Park
SOLD OUT
Leon Bridges is coming home! Sadly, and not surprisingly, this one’s sold out. Since his debut in 2015, the Fort Worthian has appeared on numerous late night shows, starred in his own Apple commercial and even earned a Grammy Award nomination. If you were lucky enough to snag a ticket, be sure to stop by the KXT table!

Oaktopia

Thu, Sept. 22-Sat, Sept. 24
Downtown Denton
Tickets available here.
Speaking of coming home, North Texas’ Norah Jones is headlining Oaktopia — Denton’s premiere music, art and culture fest. Norah’s grand return will be, well, grand. But so will all the other local and national acts, art shows, street performers, vendors and more at this unparalleled festival experience. (Psst! You can learn more about Oaktopia from our interview with festival co-founder Matt Battaglia and Midlake’s Eric Pulido here.)

Glen Hansard

Sat, Sept. 24
The Majestic Theatre
Tickets available here.
Be still, our folk-rock hearts. Singer-songwriter Glen Hansard is coming to town. No doubt the Irish artist’s vocals will be as gorgeous as The Majestic Theatre itself.

KXT 91.7 Presents Ray LaMontagne

Sat, Sept. 24
South Side Ballroom
Tickets available here.
Ray LaMontagne is the best thing…for our ears and for our hearts. His South Side Ballroom stop comes on the heels of his latest release, Ouroboros.

KXT 91.7 Presents Andrew Bird

Wed, Sept. 28
The Majestic Theatre
Tickets available here.
Singer-songwriter-violinist-whistler Andrew Bird hits up The Majestic Theatre on Wednesday, September 28. In case you missed it, his video for “Left Handed Kisses” from his latest album Are You Serious features the one and only Fiona Apple. It’s like indie peanut butter and jelly.
