  • Paul Slavens

I am here, lets hear some great suggestions

  • PeterJ

Sunday again already… I love that you’re plaing This Mortal Coil again this week. Here’s my favorite song by Dead Can Cance who also recorded on 4AD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtNFQ7RJbaQ For something you may not have heard of before try this track by The The called Infected… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey0eS-Nx6Ks Back in the day when cable was new the show on USA called Night Flight played this video.

  • Paul Slavens

I used to love Night Flight
got turned on to lots of weird stuff on that show
    thanks for the suggestion

  • Mr. Joe

    Chet Baker?
    They Might Be Giants?
    Superchunk?
    Modeski Martin and Wood?
    Slayer?

  • Nice show so far.

  • Sarah Ruth

Loved hearing This Mortal Coil! Would also love to hear Cocteau Twins-‘Loves Easy Tears’ or any really!

  • Bobby-Lee (B L) Zebubba

Enjoying the variety of tonight’s muscical excursion, in particular This Mortal Coil, Dovehunter and Ennio Morricone.

  • Ron Bulla

Hello Texas friends. I have a couple of suggestions from southeast Missouri: “Elysian Persuasion” by Ozomatli and “Some Other Time” by the Allan Parsons Project. I can’t seem to post a link for the songs- nothing new under the sun here. This radio program is a beautiful thing. Thank you, Paul, for being the straw that stirs the drink.

  • John

Great choice from Pernice Bros. My suggestion this week:
David Byrne/Brian Eno: “Strange Overtones” from CD Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. Echoes of Remain in Light-era Talking Heads. You can listen to the track here: http://www.everythingthathappens.com/

  • Ron Bulla

Hell to the yeah on that Dan Fogelberg.

  • Paul Slavens

    thanks y’all
I can get a bunch of that stuff by next week

  • Sarah Ruth

Would also like to hear Joe Jackson “Steppin’ Out,” please?!

  • Bobby-Lee (B L) Zebubba

I believe when Ms. Brownfield pleads for some Quaby Sisters, she means The Quebe Sisters; they’re a local act who’re getting national attention, and you can read about them here
    (http://quebesistersband.com/)
    and buy their music here
    (http://quebesistersband.com/quebe-sisters-cd.php).

If you’re looking for a recommendation, of the limited samples available on their web-site “One More Time”, “Red Wing” and “Bonnie Kate’s Reel” of of their first album are my favorites but they fail to showcase the girls’ harmonies, which is kind of the main point of their act, so if you get the CD you may want to check out some of their other tracks.

  • Lorenz

    Hey!
I am from Europe (Austria) and currently working in Dallas.
I’m stunned by the great pieces of music you provide on your show!
One of my favorite bands: The Wooden Birds from Austin.. maybe you can add a song to your playlist?

  • Brad Ellis

Great music! I recently heard a song by Bat for Lashes that I loved. Unfortunately I missed the title but I’m thinking it was Two Planets. Liked the use of the drums. Brad

  • Bobby-Lee (B L) Zebubba

And for those of your audience who couldn’t make it to the Leavitt Pavilion in Arlington tonight to catch the James-Brown-esque sound of Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears, I recommend “Humpin'” off of his album “Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!”. But be forewarned: if you go with one of his other tracks they may not pass the Pat Boone test.

  • CAM

I heard “Let’s Talk Dirty in Hawaiian” the other afternoon and loved it! This station is awesome, outstanding, incredible, great, etc.

  • Bobby-Lee (B L) Zebubba

    Re: The Quebe Sisters.

    Wow – that was fast!

  • Paul Slavens

Joe Jackson , Bat for Lashes, Wooden Birds
    Eno Ozomatli
    Chet Baker?
    They Might Be Giants?
    Superchunk?
    Modeski Martin and Wood?
    Slayer?
    yes yes yes yes

    excellent

  • I meant pslavens … just let me know. I also meant “not”

  • PeterJ

Speaking of the Remain in Light Talking Heads album Byrne and Eno also did the disc My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. wicked cool. I’ve been on an 70’s 80’s kick lately. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTFIzLKaZj4 America is Waiting… or Mea Culpa, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52-zmNmplRQ&NR=1 From the way back machine circa 1981.

Also Genlte Giant Apirations is a great ballad by these often overlooked progressive/art rockers… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-GGpQ1efwQ

  • Hi Paul!

I’m listening to your show in McKinney on my new home stereo.

Modeski Martin and Wood sounds nice.

    How about some Zero 7?

  • Bobby-Lee (B L) Zebubba

This playing right now, right after the news break – sounds kind of like The Roling Stones meet The Cure and share some sodium pentathol – I love it! Sonic Youth perhaps? Yo La Tengo?

  • And he’s too humble to tell you guys, but go buy/download/rub yourself all over “Alphabet Girls”. Fantastic and classic. I sort of made out with myself after hearing it…

  • Paul Slavens

    more excellent ideas
    gentle giant ?
    but of course

  • Paul Slavens

    TMI Simon
    but thanks for the plug

  • Francois & Rebecca

    Great show Paul!
    Francois

  • Bobby-Lee (B L) Zebubba

And speaking of Pat Boone, he did a heavy-metal album a decade or so ago that I’ve ( and, I suspect, most of your audience) never heard (imagine THAT), so how about rectfying this situation? It was called “In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy” and you can get it here (http://www.musicmillennium.com/), here (http://www.buymusichere.net/rel/v2_viewupc.php?storenr=13&upc=07674400252) or at Amazon if you must (http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Mood-More-Mr-Nice/dp/B000005KOE%3FSubscriptionId%3D15HRV3AZSMPK0GXTY102%26tag%3Die8suggestion-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB000005KOE).

Not having experienced before the treasure that is Pat Boone I can’t recommend anything in particular off of this album so you’re just gonna have to listen to it allllllllll the way through and pick something out – you must’ve done something lately to deserve that, right?

  • Bobby-Lee (B L) Zebubba

It was good to hear Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

  • Bobby-Lee (B L) Zebubba

    Fine Grace Jones too.

  • Paul Slavens

thanks for the suggestions and good company
goodnight and see you next week
