The Butch is back, and “East Coast Girl” already feels like a classic. Butch Walker has spent a good chunk of the past few years writing and producing moneymakers for Pink, Avril Lavigne and Taylor Swift, and lucky for us, he’s striking out on his own again, just in time to save your summer playlist. Unashamedly informed by late Pretenders lead guitarist James Honeyman-Scott’s signature licks on “Kid” and his quality studio time with the Gaslight Anthem’s Brian Fallon, “East Coast Girl” tells you what for in 4 minutes and 13 seconds, and the world’s a better place for it. Stay Gold is out on August 26.
We’ve loads of love for local, and Fort Worth’s Calhoun has been a KXT playlist staple since the station’s inception. A few weeks ago, for our inaugural KXT Sun Sets show, Tim and Josh were gracious enough to play a couple of tracks from the new album, Football Night In America, and “Georgia” took its rightful position on today’s New Music Monday roster.
Denton’s Doug Burr is another artist on the receiving end of frequent love here on the KXT airwaves, and his June 17 release Country Girls In City Dresses cements his place as one of the premier top-notch singer-songwriters here in North Texas. And coming up this Saturday at Shipping & Receiving in Fort Worth, you can help him celebrate the release of the new album with another North Texas artist of note, Sarah Jaffe.
Say what you will about the newly re-tooled Ghostbusters, it’s really Elle King we’re gonna call, on the strength on her fiercely hook-tacular first single from the soundtrack, “Good Girls.”
