UK folktronica artist Beth Orton brings back her earlier trip hop vibes on Kidsticks, the new album landing on May 27. The track we’re crushing on is “1973” — a toe-tapping happy number featuring some mighty fine fretwork from George Lewis, Jr. from Twin Shadows.
Sometimes you just need a little synth, and we’re still convinced there’s something in the water in the Land Down Under. Electro-trio Rufus Du Sol hails from Sydney and came to the attention of their fellow Aussies thanks to the cameo “You Were Right” played in a cider commercial, and now they’re poised and ready to win the hearts and ears of music lovers on this side of the equator.
Dreamy, soft pop is just what the doctor ordered for this lovely spring day, and Jack Tatum comes charging to the rescue with Wild Nothing’s newest single, “Reichpop.” A good chunk of the new album Life Of Pause was recorded in the same studio that ABBA once owned. If that’s not good juju, then we don’t know what is.
June 10 is when the UK singer-songwriter Tom Odell makes his mighty return with Wrong Crowd, the follow-up to his million-selling debut, Long Way Down. In search of a bigger, more dramatic sound, he enlisted the help of Jim Abbiss – who’s produced albums for Adele and the Arctic Monkeys — and “Magnetised” has “hit” written all over it.
