Nashville Obsolete marks the mighty return of the Dave Rawlings Machine, and January 8 is when you can savor their magic for yourself at The Majestic. Fingers crossed they’ll be donning some boffo Nudie suits like the ones here in the video for “The Weekend.”
Hailing all the way from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ben Caplan and The Casual Smokers rip it to shreds on their sophomore release, Birds With Broken Wings, officially out in the U.S. on November 6. It’s raucous, raw and sure to win the hearts of Tom Waits fans all over the world. Added bonus: they’re making a stop at the Double Wide in Dallas on Saturday, November 7.
Hartford, Connecticut six-piece Bronze Radio Return bounces back with their second release, Light Me Up, and the title track lives up to its name like a charm. Less roots, more kerpow this time around, recorded down in the West Texas town of El Paso with Chad Copelin, who’s worked with Fort Worth’s Green River Ordinance and Oklahoma’s punk-pop trio Broncho. And boy, does it show.
“Why Would We Now?” is the opener on The Decemberists‘ new five-song Florasongs EP, named after the studio where these outtakes from What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World were recorded. Quintessential Colin Meloy & Co. for The People. Enjoy!
