Fort Worth’s most beloved and fearsome foursome, The Toadies, never fail to go right for the jugular – even with stripped-down re-inventions of fan favorites. Heretics lands on September 18th and ushers in a new era for the fearsome foursome, including their otherworldly cover of Blondie’s “Heart of Glass” and the horn-infused re-imagining of “I Come From The Water.” Just in time for Dia De Los Toadies 2015, too – right around the corner the weekend of September 11th. Check out the opening track below, “In The Belly Of A Whale.”
The Chamanas hail from El Paso/Juarez and came to our attention not too long ago when we caught their cover of Portugal.The Man’s “Purple, Yellow, Red and Blue,” which shows up on their September 4th debut on Nacional, Once Once (as in 11:11), along with today’s NMM pick, “Alas de Hierro” (“Iron Wings”), a sweeping, waltz-y track conjuring up equal parts Lesley Gore and a dream-pop waltz.
Saintseneca’s newest single “Sleeper Hold” is all about making a joyful noise, blending Velvets-inspired riffs and the exuberant interplay between co-vocalists Zac Little and Maryn Jones. The Columbus, Ohio quintet makes their mighty return on October 9th with the release of their third full-length, Such Things, their second album for Anti-.
Sometimes you’ve gotta blame it on the boogie, and come October, Mutemath is back with Vitals, their first album in four years and poppiest effort to date. The album’s lead single “Monument” is an all-out celebration of synth and lead vocalist Paul Meany has the kind of falsetto that would make even Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire sit up and take notice.
Telekinesis is the brain-child of Michael Benjamin Lerner, who’s demonstrated amply over the course of the band’s first three releases and several personnel changes that he can still make the kind of music you won’t mind taking up prime real estate in your head. Ad Infinitum, the band’s fourth release for Merge, lands in stores September 18th and “In The Future World” is a sweet taste of things to come.
