Meet Mike Arreaga, featured artist for the KXT 2014 Winter Membership Campaign.
Arreaga is a native Texan, master of screens and king of props, event designer and artist. With 20 years of screen printing under his locally‐made, leather‐tooled belt – branded ‘Mr. Arreaga’, of course – Arreaga designs the look of social and corporate events with Deep Ellum prop house Shag Carpet during the day, before darting into his screen printing cave in Oak Cliff.
His work layers vintage images with textures of clean lines and self-captured images and designs. The work is continuously changing and evolving, trashed and then resurrected. Arreaga is deeply involved in the local arts community, working as a board member and event designer for Art Conspiracy almost since its inception, and acting as creative director in 2014 for The Pin Show, a showcase for independent fashion designers. His current design and print project is called One Eye Open, with a focus on clean, tight design for textiles and poster printing.
