Calexico’s Joey Burns discusses art, concerts and recording an album during a pandemic

I had a chance to catch up with Joey Burns, leader of the band Calexico prior to their return to Dallas on June 13 for a KXT presents show at the Granada Theater.

Long time Tuscon resident Joey Burns moved to Boise, Idaho in 2020. He returned to Tuscon to record El Mirador with his band Calexico. The return brought back a flood of good feelings from Burns:

Calexico has always taken great pride in creating a visual style to go along with their music. Some pretty impressive videos have been created to enhance the vibe of the record. After seeing the first video, the band was so impressed they encouraged the animators to just keep going. Here’s Burns again:
