New Music Monday Picks For February 1, 2016

Your New Music Monday picks for the first day of February include a sister duo, an esteemed collaboration and the return of Ben Harper!

It’s been nine years since the last album from Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, and we’re quite taken with the first track released into the wild from Call It What It Is: “Pink Balloon.” The song celebrated its premiere on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and the album hits the streets April 8 via Stax.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros spring back in April with two weekends at Coachella and their fourth studio album, PersonA. It’s the first album minus Jade Castrinos, but Alex Ebert and his crew face the next chapter in the band’s storied career with great aplomb and keep their psychedelic pop stamp intact with “No Love Like Yours.”

Lily & Madeleine hail from Indianapolis and make their mighty return on February 26, backed by an all-female band and their third full-length, Keep It Together. They teamed up with the Flaming Lips’ art director George Salisbury to produce the video for “For The Weak,” a song showcasing the sister duo’s signature harmonies and gentle jams.

El Vy is the acclaimed collaboration between Matt Berninger of The National and Brent Knopf from Menomena. It’s the happiest Matt Berninger’s ever sounded on a record, and definitely worth your time to check out their sweet new NPR Tiny Desk Concert, and savor “Need A Friend,” the second official single from their debut, Return To The Moon.

XOXO
