Midlake picks up as if no time has passed on its latest album, "Bridge to Far."⁠

The Denton-based folk-rock collective — Eric Pulido, McKenzie Smith, Eric Nichelson, Jesse Chandler, Joey McClellan and Scott Lee — moved more swiftly to follow up its 2022 album, For the Sake of Bethel Woods.⁠

@midlakeband also enlisted a new producer, Sam Evian, who decamped to North Texas to craft these 10 songs at the Echo Lab.⁠

“Everything felt effortless and authentic,” Pulido said of the Evian-helmed sessions in a statement. “We didn’t overthink things.”⁠

Mike Snider, the avuncular face of Deep Ellum’s

Mike Snider, the avuncular face of Deep Ellum’s devotion to the care and feeding of its creatives as manifested in the beloved AllGood Café, has announced his retirement to be nearer to his family in Ohio.⁠

And while Snider’s 25-year run as the owner of AllGood draws to a close, his departure — thankfully — does not mean the venerable space is also following him into the sunset.⁠
⁠
Instead, the Allgood Café will pass into the hands of a renowned local musician, John Pedigo, alongside his partner, Robin Gill, and another local musician, Ward Richmond (who, D Magazine reports, is serving as a silent investor). Pedigo will keep the music side of things running, while Gill handles the restaurant’s day-to-day operations.⁠

The inaugural @rallypointdfw Music Festival celebrated an early Veteran’s Day over the weekend, showcasing military veteran musicians and songwriters for a daytime lineup at @magnoliamotorlounge - spearheaded by Fort Worth musician and US Army veteran Sean Russell (@seanrussellmusicfwtx).⁠

“In the military,” Russell explained in an interview with Fort Worth Weekly, “a rally point is where you regroup when everything goes wrong. That’s the crux of Rally Point Music. Let’s regroup. Let’s see what tools you have and what wounds you have.”⁠

The Polyphonic Spree’s “Together We’re Heavy

The Polyphonic Spree’s “Together We’re Heavy” was born on the run.⁠
⁠
The Dallas symphonic rock band was in the throes of touring behind its breakout debut album, 2002’s “The Beginning Stages of …,” when singer-songwriter and frontman Tim DeLaughter’s thoughts began to turn to what came next.⁠
⁠
“We had so much success on that first record, we basically were … touring all the time, and so we’d write out on the road,” DeLaughter said.⁠

To mark “Together We’re Heavy” 21st anniversary, @thepolyphonicspree will perform the album in its entirety at @tulipsftw on Friday, November 7.⁠
⁠
Ahead of the show, KXT’s Preston Jones spoke to @timdelaughter about his mindset during Heavy’s creation, how well the spirit animating its songs has aged, and what’s next for Good Records’ physical location, six months on from his dear friend, collaborator and @goodrecords co-founder Chris Penn’s tragic, untimely death earlier this year.⁠
