Earlier this year, KXT’s annual Homegrown Music Earlier this year, KXT’s annual Homegrown Music Month added something tasty for fans to take home: Homegrown Bites, Vol. 1. The limited edition compilation, produced by KXT in partnership with Whataburger, was pressed on — what else? — custom orange vinyl. If you missed out on the LP (or even if you were fortunate enough to snag one at one of the five drops KXT hosted across North Texas in October), there’s still a chance to hear the acts featured on the record. Making the leap from the turntable to the stage, Homegrown Bites Live will take over @hobdallas on Saturday, December 28. The line-up includes North Texas favorites like @thelarrygeemusic, @angl.whte, @cureforparanoia, @damoyee, @parkertwomey, @squeezeboxbandits, @remyreilly, @phantomelo and @thewee_beasties. On December 21, 1960, Fort Worth alto saxophonist On December 21, 1960, Fort Worth alto saxophonist and composer Ornette Coleman assembled not one but two quartets for a studio date that produced one of the most pivotal records of the post-bebop era: "Free Jazz, A Collective Improvisation by the Ornette Coleman Double Quartet." An album-length free improvisation with only a few pre-conceived themes, Free Jazz harkened back to early New Orleans-style improvisation while signaling an emerging modernist avant-garde. Denton folk-rock band Midlake is reaching back int Denton folk-rock band Midlake is reaching back into its past. The sextet — Eric Pulido, McKenzie Smith, Eric Nichelson, Jesse Chandler, Joey McClellan and Scott Lee — is readying a new 180-gram vinyl pressing of its 2006 sophomore album "The Trials of Van Occupanther" for release on January 17. @midlakeband has also pulled the wraps off a music video for the album’s lead-off track, “Roscoe,” which was created by director Dan Fernbach 18 years ago. 🔗 Watch the video at the link in our bio. 📸 Big Hassle
In 2012, The Polyphonic Spree celebrated their 10t In 2012, The Polyphonic Spree celebrated their 10th annual Holiday Extravaganza with an album, “Holidaydream,” a live tour and a performance on @nprmusic Tiny Desk 🎶 @polyspree treated the NPR Music office to two traditional carols — "The Christmas Song" and "Silver Bells" — and the John Lennon classic "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)." For his latest project, Fort Worth-based singer-so For his latest project, Fort Worth-based singer-songwriter @courthoang found inspiration in an unlikely place — the calendar. Hoang understood the simple fact that the music business now is driven by an unrelenting amount of content dispensed at an equally merciless pace, but decided to beat the algorithm at its own game. The entire project is called Triptychs, but it is being broken up into four distinct volumes, each one pegged to a season and featuring three songs.
