The sweet strains of Western swing — a sound per The sweet strains of Western swing — a sound personified by its perhaps best-known purveyor, Bob Wills — are as indelible a part of Texas’s identity as bluebonnets or oil.

The roots of the genre run deep, and are particularly strong in a venue many thought might never reopen its doors: The @longhornballroom, which first opened its doors in 1950 as the Bob Wills Ranch House.

After several decades of indolence and gradual decline, the venue, rescued from disrepair by the Kessler Theater’s Edwin Cabaniss, will reopen its doors on March 30, with a performance from a band whose own career has endured long enough to play the Longhorn both in the 1970s and now: Asleep at the Wheel (@asleepatthewheel1970).

Looking back on it, Ellie Turner (@ejaneturn) can’t single out a specific catalyst that led her to this moment.

The Dallas native, now a Nashville-based singer-songwriter, simply took one day at a time. Life unfolded in such a way that she now stands on the precipice of releasing her debut album, “When the Trouble’s All Done,” which drops Friday.

The life and art of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan lo The life and art of the late Stevie Ray Vaughan long ago passed into Texas musical myth. His was an incandescent, once-in-a-generation talent taken from the world far too soon.

Despite having first achieved success with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Vaughan’s older brother, Jimmie, often seems to be shortchanged when it comes to his own abilities and influence — somewhat lost in the long shadow of his sibling, but also somewhat overlooked by subsequent generations.

Tickets for the “Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughan: Brothers in Blues" Friday screening at @texastheatre are still available! Tap the link in our bio for the full story!

There’s a vivid sense of propulsion underpinning There’s a vivid sense of propulsion underpinning the Dirty Shirts’ (@thedirtyshirtsus) latest single, “Heart Attack,” which makes total sense — this is not a band content to rest on its laurels.

The new track, co-produced by Jeff Saenz, is illustrative of the elastic sonic boundaries the Dallas band affords itself — disco-dusted, laced with gritty guitars and glowing with vocal harmonies. “Heart Attack” made its worldwide premiere last week on KXT’s The Local Show.
