Continuing the Independent Radio Tradition
Independent radio has been a staple of Texas for a long time. Back in the 60’s, the government regulated radio to the point that broadcasters had to go across the border to play what they wanted to play. Now, we can broadcast right out of Dallas, but can only do so with the support of music fans like you.

Music Discovery
Lots of the great feedback we get from our listeners has to do with bands or artists they have heard for the first time on KXT 91.7. KXT provides a public music discovery service for North Texas, playing local and national artists that other stations cannot play.
We can only play as much new music as we do because we are listener-supported. Our playlists do not have to cater to a limited demographic to sell advertisements, although we reach a large amount of listeners each week. Service to Locals
Playing local music is a key component of what we do here at KXT 91.7. We get great feedback from listeners on the artists they have discovered on our air that live and perform regularly in their neighborhood, whether it is Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, or any point in between. One of our goals is to expose what is going on in the DFW area to our listeners, so the local artists can get the support they deserve.
Other stations cannot play as much local music as we do, because it is a risk to the advertisers that keep them afloat.
