Bubba Hernandez

After 20 years of touring with Brave Combo, two Grammys and one appearance on “The Simpsons,” Bubba Hernandez stepped out with his own Los Super Vatos in 2005. Melding R&B, Tex Mex and blues into their own simmering sound, Los Super Vatos have proven to be a formidable live act, tearing up stages around the Southwest. They stopped by the KXT studio on Tuesday, November 17.

Little Black Dress

Dallas’ own Little Black Dress stopped by on Monday, November 16th to play a few of their melodic, shoegaze-influenced tunes. Nolan Thies and Toby Pipes, the founders of the band brought a stripped down version of their unique sound to KXT listeners, playing songs from their debut Snow In June that bring to mind the Cocteau Twins and the Jesus and Mary Chain.

100 Damned Guns

Fort Worth alternative country act 100 Damned Guns stopped by the studios on Friday, November 13th to play a few of their songs in a stripped down acoustic format. The band, who released their first record Musica De Tormento in May 2009, has won the Fort Worth Weekly’s “Best Country Act” the last three years in a row.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, an Alabama band fronted by the former Drive-By Truckers guitarist brought their soulful country-rock sound to the KXT studios and played a couple songs from their latest self-titled album.

The Happy Bullets

The Happy Bullets, a playfully eclectic psych-pop band from south Dallas stopped by to play a few of their catchy tunes. Fronted by charismatic singer Jason Roberts, the Bullets never lack for energy and have a way of wrapping many genres into a well written, poppy package.

Colin Boyd

Dallas based singer/songwriter Colin Boyd and backup vocalist Lauren Adelle came and played a few songs for the KXT Morning Show. His bright pop tunes show his years of experience crafting tunes for himself and others. Boyd is the only human being to have songs recorded by Jack Ingram as well as Barney, the purple dinosaur.

Danny Balis

Dallas singer-songwriter Danny Balis’ solo album Too Much Living was released this year to local raves and was featured on Paul Slavens’ Track by Track podcast. The simplicity of old-school country songs by artists like Patsy Cline and Merle Haggard influenced Balis at an early age, and he greatly admires Townes Van Zandt as a songwriter.

The O’s

The O’s – a Dallas duo consisting of Taylor Young and John Pedigo – came together after many years of performing in other area bands. The attraction was as simple as their mission: Write, record (and ultimately perform) songs; no plugs, no electrics, just music. Their debut record, “We Are The O’s,” has received critical acclaim locally and beyond, and the group was recently named one of Alternative Press‘ 100 Bands You Need To Know.
