Salim Nourallah is a North Texas music scene fixture. After gaining initial acclaim with the Denton-based Nourallah Brothers (with his brother Faris), he released several solo albums, most notably Beautiful Noise and his most recent, Constellation. Dawes sprung from the ashes of the band Simon Dawes, as lead singer and guitarist Taylor Goldsmith steered his new group into more country-rock territory, emulating the Laurel Canyon sound of the early 1970’s. Their debut release North Hills, prompted Rolling Stone to call them “the most promising purveyors of new-school country folk.” They bring their throwback sound to the KXT Afternoon Show with Joe Kozera before their show at the Cavern that evening.

Dallas pop duo Smile Smile’s music comes from the wreckage of a relationship — one involving both members of the band. Ryan Hamilton and Jencey Hirunrusme were together when they made their first record, Blue Roses, but split before their upcoming release Truth On Tape. It’s hard to say that the broken relationship has had anything but a positive effect on the music, as their sunny songs hide the dark territory underneath.
