This Week On World Cafe, April 18-22

Here’s what’s coming up this week on World Cafe:

 

Monday, April 18

The special week-long series, Sense of Place, returns today, focused on Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The series kicks off with a session from Durham alt-country rockers, Mount Moriah. Today’s episode also features a Vintage Cafe session from 1997, the first time we met Ryan Adams when Whiskeytown joined David Dye in studio.

Tuesday, April 19

The special series, Sense of Place, continues in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, featuring a session from one of the most prolific songwriters in his native state, David Childers. Plus, a Vintage Cafe Session from Squirrel Nut Zippers that originally aired in 1996.

Wednesday, April 20

Sense of Place continues with an interview with Mac MacCaughan and Laura Balance, who founded Merge Records together. Also a live session with MacCaughan, and songs from his first solo album, Nonbelievers. In the second hour, catch a Vintage Cafe session with Sylvan Esso.

Thursday, April 21

Today a very special session with Hiss Golden Messenger.  Also, a special appearance  by singer-songwriter, Tift Merrit. AND a Vintage Cafe session from 2010 with the Carolina Chocolate Drops.

Friday, April 22

Sense of Place concludes today with sessions from the hip-hop musician and poet, Shirlette Ammons. Also, we hear from the renowned producer of bands like R.E.M., Mitch Easter.
