Concerts this week in North Texas

There are only so many family/office/tacky Christmas sweater holiday parties one can attend without completely losing one’s tinsel. So this weekend, we suggest you clear out the holiday tunes that are clogging your eardrums and replace them with some — well — really, really good music.

Here are some of the top shows we have our eye on this weekend in North Texas:

Friday, December 11

Kick-off the good weekend vibes with Austin’s seven-piece outfit Wild Child at Trees in Deep Ellum. The group is touring in support of their latest album, Fools, which is a dreamy treat for anyone who digs a lush, indie-pop sound. Telegraph Canyon and Criminal Birds will also be playing:

Saturday, December 12

Saturday brings us a trio of local, rock-goodness as Fort Worth’s The Unlikely Candidates take the Gas Monkey stage along with Dallas’ Black Vega and Pseudo Future. Rock hard and local, y’all:

OK. OK. We lied — you can’t entirely escape the holiday theme this weekend. But when it’s The Polyphonic Spree, why would you want to?! The Dallas uber-group will be providing a rock set, a holiday set and (apparently) milk and cookies at midnight. Um. Yes, please:

Sunday, December 13

Country-punk rock is a thing. And perhaps no one encapsulates it better than Lucero. They’ll be bringing that distinctly Memphis sound to South Side Music Hall on Sunday. Not a bad way to close out the week:

Happy concerting!
