The Paul Slavens Show: Live Blog for December 2,2012

Good evening! It sure doesn’t feel like December – but that doesn’t mean its not a beautiful night.  Glad to have you along!  Please suggest some music for next weeks show.  Make extra sure that there is no FCC bad language in your suggested music. Try to keep the tracks under 6 minutes.  Otherwise, mix it up, I like to play all kinds of music from all time periods.

New to me this week:

Dead Meadow

Lost In The Trees

Beat Circus

Elysian Fields

These are my Christmas music suggestions, and you can trust me on this because I worked in music retail for 22 years and listened to 50-60 hours of crappy Christmas a week for 6 weeks each year.

These are the albums i’ll still listen to:

Magic of Christmas by The Soulful Strings on the Cadet label (best xmas lp of all time!)

Merry Christmas from the Space-Age Bachelor Pad by Esquivel (xmas weirdness)

25th Day of December by the Staple Singers (pre-Stax early 60s xmas gospel/soul)

Peace by Rotary Connection feat. Minnie Ripperton (beautifully strange psychedelic holiday music)

Soul Christmas and Christmas in Soulsville both on the Atlantic/Stax label (funky as hell)

Anything from any of these is a welcome respite during this season.

I am not sure how much Christmas music I intend to play , but I will give em a listen. thanks!!

I’ve had an obsession lately with Gabor Szabo’s Bachanal and 1969 lp’s…great cheesey guitar covers of late 60s rock/pop songs…like
