Homegrown Music & Arts Festival – the pictures!

Guest post and pictures by Lacey Dowden. The third annual Homegrown Music and Arts Festival brought Texas artists, musicians and their fans to Main Street Garden in downtown Dallas last Saturday.

Among the bands on the bill were several Austin-based bands including Ume, The Octopus Project, Ben Kweller and Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears. The Mohicans, a duo from the DFW area and current students at Texas Tech University, mixed up the rock vibe with hip-hop early in the day. Hayes Carll, one of the headliners along with Black Joe Lewis and Honey Bears, brought the Texas country and drew a large crowd.

The garden’s plot in the middle of the towering structures was a beautiful backdrop to the two stages placed at ether end of the rectangle. The free Snaple being literally hand delivered to the crowd was a plus and had me thinking back to other festivals I’ve attended where I walked for what seemed like a mile for a $4 bottle of water.

Among the vendors were Dowdy Studio (his owl design t-shirt is one of my favorite t-shirts that I own) and Nevada Hill, screen printer and friend of A&S.

If you’re in the Dallas area this Friday, June 1st don’t miss KXT’s first annual Summercut: The Happy Funtime Fest at the Gexa Energy Pavilion. Music starts at 5 and ends at 11:30 with headliners The Flaming Lips.
